The annual presentation of the Appleton Prize for excellence in Mathematics or Theoretical Physics has been made to Sean Fitzgerald and Stephen Britton at Trinity College Dublin

The Appleton Prize is an annual recognition of excellence in the quantitative disciplines and is awarded in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin. Specifically, the award is based on the results of the Foundation Scholarship examinations, taken during the second year of the course. Foundation Scholarship is the highest undergraduate award available at Trinity, and the Appleton prizes recognise the very highest achievers within this pool. Appleton has a long history of hiring students from this group, including the current Research Director and the award serves as an excellent opportunity to continue this avenue of recruitment.
