As fears from the European debt crisis persist since Greece is believed to default or restructure its debt, Asian stocks suffered more losses since investors continue to avoid risk on worries from the slowing global economic recovery. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index fell by 2.1% at 15:00 in Tokyo.
Nikkei 225
Nikkei 225 fell today by 1.70% or 163.04 points closing at 9411.28. From 225 shares, 17 advanced, 200 declined and 8 unchanged. Sectors leading the decline were the industrials that lost 57.58 points and consumer goods that lost 30.92 points.
Lagging shares today were Fanuc Corp which fell by 2.31% closing at 12250 yen, second was Softbank Corp which fell by 3.15% closing at 2893 yen. And Kyocera Corp which fell by 1.58% closing at 8110 yen.
Among the shares that advanced NGK Insulators Ltd topped the list by rising 1.42% closing at 1431 yen, followed by Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd which rose by 1.11% and closing at 727 yen. And OJI Paper Co Ltd which rose by 1.71% and closing at 356 yen.
S&P/ASX 200
The S&P/ASX 200 fell today by 1.92% or 87.60 points closing at 4479.20. From 200 companies, 14 shares ended green, 173 ended in red and 13 unchanged. Sectors leading the decline were the financials that lost 34.54 points and basic materials that lost 29.36 points.
Lagging shares today included Murchison Metals Ltd that retreated 9.49% closing at 0.72 Australian dollars, trailed by Aquarius Platinum Ltd loosing 7.63% closing at 4.60 dollars. And Gunns Ltd falling 7.27% closing at 0.26 Australian dollars.
Sigma Pharmaceuticals Ltd inclined the most today as it rose 2.15% closing at 0.48 Australian dollars, followed by Roc Oil Co Ltd surging 1.59% closing at 0.32 Australian dollars, and Spark Infrastructure Group that surged by 1.54% closing at 1.32 Australian dollars.
Hang Seng Hang Seng fell today by 1.75% or 390.66 points to close at 21953.11. From 45 companies, 3 rose today, while 43 fell, and 0 unchanged. Sectors leading the decline were the financials that lost 272.27 points and the industrials that lost 31.32 points. Lagging shares today were China Construction Bank which fell 4.76% closing at 6.61 Hong Kong dollars, and HSBC Holdings PLC falling by 1.54% closing at 76.85 Hong Kong dollars. And AIA Group Ltd falling by 4.22% closing at 26.10 Hong Kong dollars. The shares that advanced were PetroChinaLtd topped the list by rising 0.94% closing at 10.72 Hong Kong dollars, followed Esprit Holdings Ltd that rose by 1.71% and closing at 26.75 Hong Kong dollars. And Hong Kong & China Gas Co Ltd that rose by 0.69% and closing at 17.46 Hong Kong dollars.
