NEW YORK, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Targanta Therapeutics Corp's
clinical trial data shows its antibiotic is about as safe and
effective as another similar drug already on the U.S. market,
Food and Drug Administration staff said on Monday.
In general, the results for Targanta's oritavancin are
comparable to those for vancomycin, another antibiotic sold by
several other companies, FDA staff said in documents released
ahead of an advisory committee meeting on Wednesday.
The FDA is seeking its adviser's recommendation on whether
to approve the drug to treat complicated skin infections.
