Again, you can feel the rugpull before it happens. Robusta running out of steam, Arabica struggling to keep a bid, funds fairly long. Rally is over. It was a good run (sort of).

It's sadder to have to sell coffee very cheap because of fake news and dirty tricks while others become filthy rich.

Published on Apr 29th by CCCMG (Centro do Comercio de Cafe do Estado de Minas Gerais), shortly: El Nino effect, that caused high temps during the development of coffee fruit, is expected to affect 2024 harvest, causing the drop in state production (ES) about 30%. Despite this, the expectation is that there will be increase in the number of bags, reaching 11mb for conilon and 4mb for arabica. (cccmg.com.br, news section). We had a drop of around 30%. And we also had the rosette mealybug, which affected conilon's productivity”, says Incaper's state coffee growing coordinator, Fabiano Tristão.

Despite 30% drop crop is going to be higher than last one? So Brazilian potential is so huge. This is correct understanding?

Short Dude. I got it a bit differently - I was reading it the way it is :) :) :). Expected production in ES for this season was 11mb of R and 4mb of A, let's say in CONAB terms :) (previous year was 9mb of R in CONAB terms :)) Now, due to weather issues that took place within current crop cycle, Incaper (official institute of ES for coffee, grown in ES :)) representative projects, that possible loss in production vs expectation may be about 30%. Forget 11mb and focus on 30% - the number itself would be insane, as the frost damage, percentage wise was considered kinda lower :). Nobody knows where the truth is, but the statement was made by official person, etc - unlikely the declaration like that would be done without any ground at all. So, to me it seems very reasonable to think that damage of some sort was done and CONAB's report will be (OR NOT :)) the confirmation. If to consider that damage was true to some extent (5%), I would consider that wherever else A areas have been affected by similar weather issues (and there were such areas for sure), the extent of damage percentage wise for affected areas would be not lower, as A is not more resistant tree than R. (We do not touch some new very special cultivars, etc :)). From here, we may find out (or not :)) that just weather reduction in Brazil may be about 2- 3mb vs expected and so, my :) 5mb of global reduction will look more realistic easier... Note, that Incaper rep was talking about whole state of ES (!!!). We'll know it all shortly.

Also note, that weather issues in Brazil were not something unique vs other origins like Asia, Africa, Islands, etc. Thus, some market participants may extrapolate kinda :) 30% (5 - 10 - 15 - 20%) onto other origins where similar or worse (!) weather conditions have been recorded and also keep in mind, that not all of those other origins are that advanced and efficient as BRAZIL is ! (In terms of tech, cultivars, management, etc.) With all of the anomalies recorded and for quite some time, to me personally it seems more reasonable to suppose that those factors would rather reduced the yield than otherwise :). Now, if you would imagine to what reduction such an extrapolation may lead ... :).

JG referred to higher mealybugs infestation in Gia Lai, etc. High temps and moist provide higher basis for it. All SE Asia was hot and moist...
