Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Optoelectronic and Hotels sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Asmedia (TW:5269), which rose 9.93% or 27.00 points to trade at 299.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Yuen Foong Yu (TW:1907) added 9.92% or 0.97 points to end at 10.75 and Falcon Power Co Ltd (TW:1516) was up 9.85% or 1.65 points to 18.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Transasia (TW:6702), which fell 9.52% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.76 at the close. Yu Foung Intl (TW:1438) declined 7.82% or 0.340 points to end at 4.010 and Infodisc Tech (TW:2491) was down 4.45% or 0.35 points to 7.51.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 542 to 218 and 118 ended unchanged.
Shares in Asmedia (TW:5269) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.93% or 27.00 to 299.00.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.15% or 0.08 to $53.18 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.25% or 0.14 to hit $56.32 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 1.16% or 13.50 to trade at $1178.80 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 1.27% to 31.846, while TWD/CNY fell 0.18% to 0.2163.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.66% at 101.81.
